Juvenile Drug Court
Juvenile Drug Court is a special court given the responsibilty to handle cases involving adolescents and their families, one or both of whom may be drug-using offenders, through both judicial supervision and substance abuse treatment. The City Court's Juvenile Drug Court program includes frequent drug testing, judicial monitoring, individual therapy, group and family counseling, substance abuse and parenting education, and the use of sanctions and incentives. The Judge has much more involvement in supervising drug court offenders than just placing an individual in a probationary or a diversionary program. Additionally, the participant is held accountable by using incentives for positive progress and sanctions for non-compliant behavior.
Juvenile Drug Court is a collaborative effort among the City Court, 21st Judicial District Attorney's Office, the Public Defender's Office, the Office of Youth Development, the Youth Services Bureau, the Tangipahoa Parish School Board, and local Law Enforcement.
